Saturday
October 4th, 2003 (Holy Shit!
this fuckin' dreamweaver thing really works!)
Hails- welcome to winterthrall.com..
I finally got off my ass to finish this fuckin' site,
hope you like it- and if you don't, well fuck you too buddy!
Anyway, we might have a show coming up on Halloween- with
those grimy black metallers in Sumeria, details soon.
Most importantly, we're going into the studio to record the demo.
The REAL demo (not the one you probably heard- that was just a shitty
4-track/live recording- sorry about that)
We start tracking Monday the 6th at Shiva Studios with John drummer of
"Eyes Of Fire" at the helm- I can't wait to get started!
I'll post pics from the studio with journals and shit, check back soon.
Day
One-
Ok, its like 1am and I just got back from the studio-
I'm pretty beat so- I'll update tomorrow- or in this
case later today!
nite
-R
October
6, 2003 The arduous task of recording a good drum sound...
We got to the studio at around 7-ish, set up took a while, and I checked
for the next 4 hours! Arrrgh! (nothing like playing quarter notes for
4 fucking hours straight!) We finally started tracking at like 11:30 pm,
and I was done in about an hour. I dunno what my deal is, but I almost
always get fucking nervous when I'm about to record, its one of my
idiosyncracies I guess. whatever..
The best thing is that I'm done tracking drums!! Yeehaw!
They're calling me"one take" Rob! (It's not that big a deal, Steve
and Liz are
just really easy to please.) We did 4 songs, "The Nightmare Passages",
"Dreams To Dust", "The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing" and "Autumn
Caskets".
The drums sound amazingly huge too! Hopefully they still sound this good
after all the rest of the music is tracked. I was starting to get pretty burnt
out
while drum checking, so I turned it over to Ruben "Hyperblast" Lugo
and
took a little breather. Ruben is the official bassist for Winterthrall
(for now anyway) until either A) he finally commits to the job or B) we find
ourselves a female bassist, which I'm hoping for, but betting on the latter...
: \
Anyway, John (who drums for Eyes Of Fire) is super easy to deal with-
must be the whole "I'm a drummer too" thing, I dunno. He
even lent me 2 of his
cymbals to record with- what a guy!
So, thats it for now- I look forward to this Wednesday when we return to
finish up. Until then- remember to wipe front to back to prevent dingle berries.

Day
Two: October 8, 2003
( "Fuck You and your cellphones, Godamnit!)
So I got fucking lost going to the studio.. turns out I was just around the
corner..
I tried calling everyones cellphones from the fucking payphone at AM/PM and
they ALL went to fucking voicemail! Godamnit!!!
Anyway, I finally figured out where it was.. It looked so different
in the daytime... NE-Way-
Here's where Steve takes over:
Nothing much to say really...I got to meet some of the
"locals" aka dirty loaded
hippy bums and Liz and I decided to brave the local taco joint (expecting a
post-meal
poop explosion).
By the time we got to the studio, John was there and we set up our guitar tones.
We decided on using Lizs amp for both guitars and honed in the sound we needed.
Next came my recording of the first guitar and the beginning of the end of my
sanity.
A.) I wrote most of these songs B.) We practice twice a week and I practice
pretty
much every day....WHY THE HELL AM I MESSING UP SO MUCH DURING RECORDING
THEN!!!! Sorry...flashback, Anyway Rob showed up half way through it, so I
revert the narration duties back to him.
The
songs sound fuckin' HUGE!~ I hope the end result sounds at least
half as good as the tracking.... update with photos and shit later tonight
(10-9-03) afterI get home from work- stay tuned kiddies! It's almost 2:15 am
and I have to try to sleep a few hours before I have to go to work again!
I hate work! I wish I didn't have to..
-cheerio
-R
Okay I'm back home from work now.. its like 8pm.
Liz and Steve kinda struggled with the tempos on some parts (sorry about that
guys! : /)
but managed to finish all of the distorted guitars. At one point Liz even dropped
her pick,
but continued playing the song out strumming with her fingers (now thats fucking
METAL!).
Over all the songs sound killer. I just hope they sound this pissed when we're
done tracking
the rest of the parts...
Hell, even John (who's not a real Black Metal fan) likes them, so there you
go...
We're supposed to go back in on Friday night to track clean guitars and solos,
perhaps even some vocals; we'll see. The process continues- more when/as it
happens. -R

MORE SHIT- THIS TIME FROM NEBUR"S LITTLE TINY DIGITAL CAMERA!=

Monday Oct 13, 2003
The last two recording sessions we set up were cancelled, so today we finally got in there to finish up.Steve and Liz basically did their leads and acoustic parts, and then vocals. The vocals sound really good too,Charles, Liz's boyfriend, did back up growls on "Nightmare Passages" as well as Ruben. So far everything sounds killer- hopefully that won't change when we go back to mix... I'll post pix of the whole debacle later today- It's already almost 2am! Goodnight fuckos...

L to R=.....chuckles wants YOU .......chuckles rocks the fuck out..... chuck and liz loungin'......dan kaufman picks a winner.... lizzy air-drumming...

L to R= ruben air-drumming..... ruben shows you how fuckin' metal he is..... steve REALLY likes tracking leads... Fuck Gene Simmons!!.... The Tools of The Trade!
So we went into the studio last night- all we managed to get done was "rough mix" 2 songs that Steve is gonna put on a Winterthrall/Noctuary split promo cd he's taking to France tomorrow. (Lucky bastard!) Anyway- the songs sound cool- I'll be uploading a sample of "The Nightmare Passages" later today. Let us know what you think! Steve and Joey (Noctuary), will be playing a show in France this Friday with Merrimack. They are backing up Neil in Krieg . I would've gone too- but they have a drummer for Europe! (Goddamn him! haha) anyway, they'll be back this coming Sunday night. Hopefully they come back with some cool stories among other "things". More on that later. For now, I'm off to count some goats...Hizails in The Hizouse mah Nizzles-
-R
(P.S.- check the sounds page for a sample of "The Nightmare Passages"!

Photos from the Halloween show are up! go here
Just a quick update before I go to rehearsal! We're supposedly playing next Saturday the 22nd in Burbank.I think we're opening so get there early, fuckers! More info to follow- like set times and all that shit.... go here for more info.. I've moved all the prior news entries because this page was getting too cluttered. You can access old news here: old shit ...Ok, that's it for now.. we are going in to finish mixing the demo as soon as we can nail down John and book the studio time- so watch this space for updates.
The demo is DONE! Our buddy John Haddad went ahead and mixed it for us and it sounds HUGE! Anyway- look on the "sounds" page for a full length mp3 of "The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing"... I encoded it at VBR (Variable Bit Rate) so it sounds pretty damn close to the original- ENJOY!! Again- your comments are welcome in the guestbook- please leave your feedback there. Also- we are definitely playing this coming Saturday- the 22nd- We play first! I know it sucks, but hopefully we won't be opening shows for very much longer- in any case, Its at The Disabled Veterans Hall in Burbank- go to the LA Metal Underground website link posted right above this for all the pertinent information. Hope to see you all there! Hails.....\m/
Hails yall, the show this past weekend was cool! even though we had to play first- it was really fun. Thanks to all the people who showed up so early- there are photos of the show here : WINTERLIVE (special thanks to Oscar for the photos!) We are getting the artwork ready for the official demo release- so hopefully by our next show- we'll have some shit to put out there., In the meantime- check out my and Steve's other band Noctuary on December 6th -THE IRON ROOM @ HULLY GULLY 9559 E.IMPERIAL HWY,DOWNEY CA. +18- we'll be playing with Hellborn (POLAND), Morbosidad (Oakland) and Ibex Throne.
HAPPY NEW YEAR fuckos! as you can see, i changed things up a bit- thanks to the dreamweaver master- Steve Turnbull! (Thanks for the tips Mr. T! check out his site @ www.light-headed.com).. Anyway, we're playing in TJ with a band called Epicurean sometime in February- I think its Feb 14th for all you lovers out there. We also have a small tour planned for late February, that and the demo should be packaged and ready to go by then- so keep an eye out. Other than that- its been good! We're at 1,000 hits! that rules, but do us a favor K? sign the fucking guestbook! Ok- more updates- including more demo tracks for download and possibly some video.. stay tuned! -r
Howdy- hope everyone had a nice New Years- now here's the news....
We finally have a banner! Its pretty kick ass too, HUGE!. Also Steve got an Ebow and me, well; I just have a new computer- I'm still getting to know its capabilities etc. I had to basically re-install a whole bunch of crucial programs and shit- that was fun- NOT. Liz went to NAMM 2004 yesterday- and she'll have some stories for us hopefully- also- she has decided to list her email address on the shows page, (behave yourselves!). As for shows etc.- we're supposedly playing up north February 20, 21, and 22nd. Those dates are with Noctuary (Steve and I will be pulling double duty!)and possibly Epicurean. I'll update that information as soon as all the details are hashed out. Other than that- keep your eyes peeled for more music! We're gonna be uploading some more songs from the demo, as soon as I get this fucking FTP program to behave. Wish me luck... -r
January 21, 2004
Ok so, the shows page has been updated... the lyrics for "the meek" are up, and we have stickers!-check it out. I'm having issues with the new server -it sucks my fucking ass!! Anyway- I'll get it sorted out soon enough- and you'll get some more music! Hope to see you all at the shows! -r
January 26th- NO, WINTERTHRALL DID NOT FALL OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH..
Something happened over the weekend and apparently the domain server that we used took a shit or went belly up... not sure, but in any case ITS BACK UP!!! (fuckin' flakey DNS bullshit) More updates to come.. -r
January 31, 2004: Updates aplenty
We're playing a FREE show at The Stardust Bar in Downey on February 15th- so I expect to see all you drunk-assed, cheapskates there- no excuses. Refer to the shows page for more dates and info. I also added some great photos to Liz's personal page- (still can't get those shower photos from Charles though, damnit!). Also, shirts will be done, hopefully within the first or second week of February.
Due to scheduling/family affairs Ruben Lugo (our main bassist) will not be able to perform all of the upcoming shows. He will do the Chula Vista show on the 22nd and Jeremy Peto (ex-Morgion) will be joining us in TJ. Jeff Peters (guitarist for Noctuary) will be filling in on the shows up north. (if that still happens...)
On that note, we're still on the hunt for a full-time bassist, male or female with pro-attitude, equipment, transportation etc. Drop us a line at : Winterthall@excite.com if you're interested or know of someone who is.
What else... uh, Oh Yeah! Jeremy and Marco and I went and saw Opeth last night OMFG!!!"The Moor", "April Ethereal", "Blackwater Park" fuckin' shit they were amazing!! I met Travis Smith there too- very cool guy considering he's an ART diety. I managed to give Peter Lindgren a copy of the demo along with a killer Jeff Buckley bootleg cd, hopefully he doesn't use our demo as a coaster ...
Ok so, there you have it. I'm slowly adding to everyones personal pages, (I'll make a "revolving-door-bassist" page as well soon) keep yer eyes peeled. As always your comments and grievances are welcome... sign the fucking guestbook! k-thnx-bye. -r

March 13th, 2004
Well, I just got home from the Iron Room show last night in Downey and I must say it was a great success! Winterthrall and Noctuary played in front of a very captive audience. Even though Steve and I were beat after Winterthrall's set, we managed to get our second wind for Noctuary's set. This pulling double duty might actually work out... Anyway, lots of old friends were there and alot of new ones too- very cool vibe- the whole night. Thanks go out to Juan for setting this show up. Also hello to Ed Knecht, Jaimie Reyes, Nick Jones, Bay Cortez and the psychos from San Diego that made that unearthly trek! You guys are all hired! Thanks to Dodecameron for the copy of the video from that interview we did in Tijuana- you guys rule! Also Javier from Abysmal Nocturne was way cool to lend me some cymbals - thanks a million man. March 14, 2005
Hey everyone, sorry that it's been so long since the last update. But, you will hopefully understand that we've been rather busy! First, recording was slightly delayed and won't begin until April. We are still going to record with John H at Shiva studios and are looking forward to it. We've used the extra time to prepare and write even more material to record.
As for shows.. First off, Winterthrall is going to embark on their first out
of state (other than TJ) show, with metal greats Sodom and Sadus on day two
of the Minnesota Mayhem Festival on May 6th and 7th. And a show with The Aborted
on June 3rd. Plus some other shows not quite worked out yet (of course we'll
keep you posted).
Last but not least, thanks to all of you who came to the Knitting Factory show
on the 11th, and helped us celebrate Rob's funeral.. uh... birthday. Even with
Me being sick and a rushed set (it happens), it was a great evening. Special
thanks to Kevin (Dead Food, Watch Me Burn) for filling in on Vox for our Brutal
Truth cover of Walking Corpse.
Until next time. Remember...Some say that the best view of God is from Hell.
-Steve
P. S. Keep an ear out for Winterthrall's music on MTV's Viva La Bam- they're supposed to use us on the camping episode. Around the end of March, beginning of April. We'll let you know specifics when we get them.
The episode that airs this Sunday April 3rd is supposedly the one where they play some of "and the meek..." . Something about being during a boating scene.. be sure to tune in! 10pm on MTV!!!

May 19, 2005
Sorry, it's been so long since the last update- here's the news:
First a BIG thank you to the nice people of Minneapolis for the warm reception (EXCEPT the nazi asshat bouncer at the club who threw Liz out for taking a stupid photo of Sadus- DIE ASSHOLE!!) Thanks to John McGovern, and Roadie Ron for having us out. It was really cool to hang out/play with-Angelia and Epicurean, Sadus (let's go to HOOTERS!), Shannon and Avenger Of Blood, Zdenka and Estuary and Don Decker of Anal Blast fame. We cannot wait to return, hopefully for a full set next time.
So now, we're back and ready to resume work on the debut cd. I have finished tracking all the drums for all the songs and next in line is Steve, Ruben then Liz at the beginning of June. In the meantime, we will be appearing at the Return Of Darkness and Evil Fest 3 on July 23rd at the Westchester Bar and Grill along with Totes Reich, Sumeria and Engorge to name but a few. We are also planning a small West Coast jaunt up North this August. Starting the 10th in San Francisco, on to Seattle and Spokane, WA. keep your eyes peeled for updates. in the Shows section.
Thanks for being so patient.. we will not let you down!
-Rob

New Logo by Christophe Szpajdel (he did the Emperor and Enthroned logos to name a few notables)
June 19, 2005
We have been ensconced at Shiva Industries Studio in Santa Ana, CA. hard at work on the debut full length with Sir-Loin John Haddad at the helm! Steve and Ruben were in the studio 2 weeks ago and this past weekend it was Lizzie's turn. Everything is sounding amazing so far. All we need to do now is finish up some keyboards, and leads, then Steve has the arduous task of vocals!
Tentatively titled "Nightmares For The Sleepless" the cd will feature 10 to 12 tracks including: "The Audient Void", "Blood From A Broken Wing", "Standing In The Light Of A Failing Sun", "Edifice Of Betrayal", "Cycles Of The Flesh", "In Frozen Apathy", "Malevolence","By The Will Of The Night", and from the demo re-worked versions of "The Nightmare Passages", "Dreams To Dust", "...And The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing", and "Autumn Caskets". We also recorded 2 covers (Brutal Truth and Carcass) which may or may not end up on the cd as bonus tracks. From the looks of it so far, this will not actually see the light of day until sometime in the Fall but, it will certainly be worth the wait! I guarantee it....
We are playing later in the month on the 23rd at the Return Of Darkness And Evil fest . This will be in LA at the Westchester Bar and Grill- it marks the debut of old school trash/deathsters Necrophagia to the West Coast. Try to come out!
UPDATE: 7/23/05
We are going on a little later tonight- sometime around 8pm... We have also confirmed a few more shows-check the shows page, yo! thats all for now. Watch this space for photos and studio reports in the next week or so..
Hails,

We will be playing a Hurricane Katrina Relief Benefit show on Oct 2nd. in San Diego at Brick By Brick with Mine and Steve's other band Noctuary (double duty!). Try to make it out!

November 3, 2005 Good News, Bad News...
Hails everyone! It's been a crazy past couple of months. Some big changes have happened:
The good news-
As you recall we finished recording the album last May, and released a promo to a lot of labels in an effort to get signed. We have received some good responses so far and it looks as though a deal is hopefully in the works! And even though the recording is done, we shall be going in to change some leads and add some vocals from the very talented Janis Tanaka (ex- Hammers of Misfortune, now in P!nk). We have also made some new shirts (they'll be in the merch section soon) featuring the re-worked logo by Christophe Spzadjel.
now the Bad...
It is with regret that we announce the departure of Liz from the band. The strenuous demand of time and learning new material, along with her commitment to the Maiden's proved to be too much and She has decided to move on to greener pastures ($$$). We wish her well on the path she has chosen and thank her for the good times we had while she was with us.

WinterSchall-2003-2005
We have a temporary substitute and already a few people interested in filling the position. BUT, we will continue to look for the right person. In the meantime, anyone who is interested feel free to email us at winterthrall@excite.com. You'll need transportation, professional gear /attitude and a flexible practice schedule. Especially important is the will to contribute musically.

Hails! We're back! After a two month sabbatical, we've re-emerged with a newfound will and determination to decimate! The full length cd is now complete and is in the final mixing and mastering stages. We would like to welcome into the fold full-time, Jeremy Peto (ex-Morgion) on bass and vocals. On 2nd guitar is none other than ex-bassist Ruben Lugo. We thought it was best to keep the inner band chemistry going at this point by switching him over to guitars and he has been hard at work learning all the old songs as well as writing and rehearsing some new material.. At this rate we will be ready to play in March! Keep an eye on this space for details of our return to the stage...
Thanks for being so patient- we will not disappoint.

A big thanks to all who showed up last night in Tijuana. Dodecameron was great as always and we'd like to thank them for the invitation. For a peak at what went on go here- thanks to Dan Boyd for documenting.
So coming this weekend we make our LA debut with the new line-up. It's with some of LA's best bands too! check it out: Zen Sushi in Silverlake/Hollywood Ca. more info in the shows section.

Mastering and sequencing of the debut cd to be completed this week. We may decide to cut-out the middleman altogether and self-release this thing or preferably license to a label. Watch this space for developments..
Thanks again for you continued support,
Rob and the 'Thrall.

It's been a while since I've updated this shit due to some server issues, so I have lots of news! Firstly, our friend Jeremy Peto has unfortunately decided to leave the band in order to concentrate on his music full time. We will miss him and wish him the best of luck with any and all of his future endeavors. (Don't be a stranger, you Fucker!)

Now I'd like to introduce you to our great new guitarist Josh Standifer:

yeah that's Josh- scary huh?
Ruben Lugo has resumed his duties on bass guitar and vocals:

and Steve and I, well; we're still here!:

(live pics by- gnarlyfotos ) taken November 9th @ The Westchester Bar (thanks Charlie!)
The new lineup made its live debut November 4th in Las Vegas along with Aztec Death Metallers Mictlantechutli. And that same week on Nov 9th with our Necro-pals "Nokturne" at the Westchester Bar in LA. Both shows were GREAT! We'd especially like to thank the awesome crowd in Las Vegas for making Josh's 1st show such a great night! And of course Josh's Crew (Matt for videotaping!) You guys are all fucking hired! Hails to our friends in Breath of Sorrows and Kinam too- you guys killed! ('sup Milo)
We recently trekked it up into the "rim-forest" of Crestline, CA. and did a photo session with Jeffrey Peters behind the lens:

kinda "dethklok-y" huh? wasn't intentional, but even cooler because of it!

more of these photos will show up in the images section soon..
Our debut full length cd "Nightmares For The Sleepless" should be out this December via our own label "Murderous Dark Records" (if we get enough cash together!) if not for sure in Jan/Feb. '07.
